Though often fraught with controversy the work of Steven Assael is exciting to me. His technique from a distance carries a feel of the classic glazed classic of the old italian masters, though the subject matter is often that of people with tatoos, piercings and unusual wardrobe choices. Though some find it repulsive, I find it refreshing and certainly an important reflection on a part of our culture today, which needs to be shown to future generations. When I first saw Assaels work in person I was shocked to see how loose and free the painting actually was because they had appeared so tight and old school. For a year or so I communicated with Steven and finally we were able to connect in a place where it was easy for the two of us to connect. He was doing a workshop at the Armory Arts Center in Palm Beach, which is blocks from my FL office. So Steven painted this image one night in about three hours as a demo in front of his students. It was a lot of fun because of his entertaining style, which includes a lot of theatrics of slammed brushes on hard boards and paint flying into the perfect spots.
Thank you thank you for this nice publication. It's wonderful that you all help the fine arts. Please see me on Facebook - NadiReuter

Dear Eric,
The Portrait and Figure Painters Society of SW Florida, Inc. will again give a workshop with Grand Master Steven Assael in March 2012.I really wish you would write something about it and include us - a very little known fine art painting and figure society in the SW Florida. We definitely made a great impact in our areas with promoting the fine art of portrait and figures as much as we can internationally. (We had over 4,100 hits on our website since it was opened in 3/10 and we have international members.)
Does one really have to be big and famous to be included into your articles? Steven Assael believes in us. I can provide you with all data you need.
